About

I engage in photography as a means of exploring a diverse range of subjects, all with the goal of elevating the image to an artistic level. Guided by principles such as line, shape, form and chiaroscuro, I craft each composition to achieve a refined aesthetic. Ultimately, my photographs serve as personal reflections—engaging, resonant, ethereal, and with a touch of magic.

Drawing inspiration from my environs in Maine, both indoors and outdoors, I capture the architecture and landscapes, infusing each image with a sense of time and place.

My still life compositions, which are symbolic, convey messages through the arrangement of found objects and curiosities, each carefully selected to imbue the image with layers of meaning. I also find creative fulfillment in crafting diptychs that convey a special significance, as well as producing self-portraits that serve as reflections of different periods in my life's journey.

I also do have a special fondness for felines.  My camera becomes a window into the world of my cats, capturing their playful antics, graceful poses, curiosity and tender expressions.

Continuously seeking to expand my creative horizons, I challenge myself with assignments aimed at deepening my understanding of what constitutes a compelling photograph.  I remain committed to evolving as an artist.

I also choose to shoot with my Kodak Instamatic X-15F loaded with black and white film for its unparalleled ability to capture moments in a distinctive, nostalgic aesthetic. The simplicity and reliability of the camera allow me to focus solely on composition and subject, free from the distractions of complex camera settings. The monochromatic palette lends a timeless quality to my photographs, enhancing the emotional resonance of each image. Additionally, the grainy texture of black and white film adds a unique depth and character, bringing a pictorial, authentic quality to my work. Using this classic combination of camera and film is not just a technical choice, but a deliberate artistic statement that speaks to my preference for capturing the essence of a moment in a beautifully analog form. I digitize the negatives to further process on my computer.

Along with exhibiting primarily in Maine, I have also donated some of my photographs for charity fundraisers in New York and Maine.
